As a counterpoint to my rather surly looking bird featured on Wordless Wednesday...

Pears Pears Every-wheres

It's that time of year again...the limbs of our old pear tree are sagging mightily under the weight of a bumper crop of pears.

It's always a dilemma finding things to do with so much fruit. The squirrels eat their fill. We eat our fill. We can them. We give them to friends and neighbors. We put them out by the side of the road. And still there are more pears. I have a love hate relationship with that old pear tree.

Ever in search of more ways to prepare our bountiful fruit I perused this old cookbook today...circa 1935.

Hmmm...I don't know what a Quince is...even after googling it...I'm still not sure. I've not done preserves with our pears yet...maybe I should give that a try.

Mmmm...Pears Romanoff now that sounds good! Adding macaroons to the shopping list...oh, and whipping cream.

If you have any favorite recipes for pears...by all means share them! And if you're in the neighborhood please stop by and take a bushel home:)

Retro Music Monday

This week in 1971 James Taylor topped the charts with the Carole King song You've Got a Friend.

It was hard to find a decent video of a 1971 recording of this song. In this one I swear the announcer introduces it as "you've go a perm"?!

Love and a Laugh

We paid a visit to the Ann Arbor Art Fair yesterday. Here are a few of the things I loved...

Fabulous windows.

Beautiful old theater.

Ultra cool birds.

And for the laugh...just 'cause it's Friday and I'm feeling silly...

I think the church ladies might be a bit shocked when they see their tea pouring from this little rabbits...ah...would you call that his spout?

If you'd like to see more of this well endowed wabbit click here.

Happy weekend everyone!

This is the sixth installment in a series of home decor photos from the 1951 Sherman-Williams Paint and Color Style Guide. This week...kitchens...

I think the first kitchen is my favorite...it looks so open and sunny. And what the heck were they canning in kitchen 5..looks like eggs!

Next Friday we'll wrap up our series with some odds and ends including nurseries and rec rooms.
