I Heart Fridays ~ Quilt Smitten

I was smitten the second I spied this precious baby quilt hanging on a thrift store rack.

What's not to love? The softness. The spring green blocks and backing.

The adorable hand embroidered little animals.

The amazingly tiny stitches of the hand quilting.

Simply beautiful!

Modern Architecture ~ Compact Design

Last weekend we couldn't resist checking out an estate sale at a home designed by noted Detroit architect William Kessler. The house we visited in Lansing, Mi is a replica of Kesslers own home in Grosse Pointe Park.

It is the smallest modern home I've ever seen. It's a 3 bedroom, single bath, compact, streamlined, simple gem.

It consists of 3 rectangular, peaked structures...side by side. The "front" and the "back" of the house are identical.

The "front" faces the Grand river...

...while the "back" faces the road. A brick wall provides privacy, despite the glass walls.

A lovely little garden area lies between the windows and the wall.

The kitchen is in the center of the house open to both the front and rear living/family rooms.

Unusual cupboard doors open by lifting up.

Neat inset pulls on the kitchen drawers...

...are repeated on the bathroom drawers.

The back hall gains access to bedrooms, bathroom, living and family rooms. The square with the circle in the middle on the right wall is the laundry chute.

There is no garage. A carport stretches from a small storage area to the main entrance at one end of the house.

Sweet house...and yes we did bring home a few modern treasures from the sale!

I Heart Fridays ~ Farwell Class of 1958

A while back, on a drive to my booth in Elk Rapids, I stopped in at the flea market in Farwell. I picked up a few things...including these photos. Senior pictures of the Farwell class of 1958. I'm not sure why...but they looked like a swell bunch of kids...and I just couldn't leave them behind.

To me, they all look quite mature for their years...especially measured against today's standards.

All the backs have something written on them. Most were to the effect of "...its been great knowing you and best of luck in the future."

A few had more interesting things written on the backs. These are a few that amused me.

This last one was probably my favorite...

Sad to see that 6 of the 26 have been marked deceased. I'm wondering if the previous owner is deceased as well. Perhaps that's how the photos ended up at the flea heirs were interested in them. Doubtful I'll ever know...but I love the photos!

Now, the question is what to do with them? Any suggestions?

I Heart Fridays ~ I've Got Your Number

I heart these antique United Remco Numerals. Paired numerical metal tags used to help match window and door storms and screens with corresponding window/door casings. My question is why did they not come in sets of three (ie. one for the screen, one for the storm and one for the casing)...or did they?

Always a job we procrastinate on every fall...and always a challenge to find the right storms for the right casings...especially after a fresh paint. This year we'll be using our Remco numbers to make the job a little easier come spring.

Thankfully we only have about 1/2 a dozen of the old style storms to put could be a lot worse on this old house!

I Heart Fridays ~ Vintage Cake Decorations

I heart vintage cake decorations....probably because they make me think of cake...and cupcakes...which of course I super duper heart!

I love these vintage ballerinas. They once graced one of my very own birthday cakes...making it taste all the more sweet.

You can find loads of fun cake decorations on Etsy....
